Burqa may be a sign of subjugation but we can’t force the women to do what they don’t want to. It will be better if Sarkozy government educate the women rather than imposing such laws against their will.

Regardless of how one may feel about the issue personally, people have the right to dress how they want - assuming no coercion. Any such ban would be unenforceable and probably would be challenged in the French courts and in the European Court of Human Rights.

Unfortunate that Mr. Sarkozy thinks Burqa as a symbol of oppression. Most of Burqa wearing muslim women, including my wife and Sister, wears it because they think it is protection and Burqa actually liberates from evil eyes and men’s carnal desires. Look at christian Nun. A man would not give a second look at her because he considers her modest. Same applies to Burqa. In truth, western women are veiled and muslim women are liberated.

You want an excuse to treat women like garbage in a bag at the curb, you want to rob them of every vestige of humanity,you want to make them to lie and say they like being invisible, go ahead,.....In your country... but don’t presume to tell other countries about dress codes.

The saying in my grandmother’s day was that women are to be seen but not heard, in your day it is women are not to be seen or heard.

Too late, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and lots of other countries already have fashion police. A fashion faux-pas in those countries could get you killed.

Reminds of the Kemal Ataturk who banned burqa in Turkey to modernize the nation. It had paid off, and so will be this ban! I don’t find there is anything wrong in this as France is only protecting their own culture of freedom and fashion. Haven’t they got the right to protect their culture?

I’m with you Ameya and Nuya

If we move out to some arab country, we have to follow their culture or else, their religious sentiments gets hurt. We can’t kiss or hold hands on the streets or else, will be jailed.

Same principal should be applied to them. In our country, you have to live the way we live. You can’t force your traditions on us. In case you don’t like it, please feel free to move to any muslim country.
