Unfortunately, this is not the case here. No body bothers to see how the children were treated by their parents in the past. People pass negative judgments for the children who don’t look after their parents. Who knows what kind of a father was he?

But here, its just one belief...if they are your biological mother and father you have to look after them...no one cares about the other side of the coin.

This is an equal society now. Dowry is banned. If you say that daughters are not supposed to take care of elders and only sons are supposed to, then you are actually supporting the dowry system. You cannot have it both ways. You need to stick to one instead of giving lame excuses for a crime committed by a woman. By the way, the lady has kicked her own father out of his own house. It is a crime by itself.

Dowry is banned? What do you think by banning the dowry it has come to an end. The reality is that the dowry system prevails more in the urban areas where the people have paying capacity. People of rural areas imitate the urban. In the rural areas they don’t have capacity to give so many items as dowry and here starts the problem.

Just because some people violate the law, it does not justify the daughter kicking out the father. Nor does it imply that sons have to take responsibility for parents. Be clear about what is right and what is wrong. If you say that dowry menace is prevalent and hence sons should continue to take all responsibilities, and that daughters should not, you are indirectly supporting dowry. Illegal things keep happening the time. That does not mean that another illegal thing should happen because of that.

CrPC 125 says any person leaving sufficient means are entitled to take care of their age old parents who are unable to maintain themselves. Just before this debate again turns into a male-female equality,I would just like to say one thing .

Why it happens that in majority of such cases it is the children who ill treat their elderly parents, you never read about any parent giving up on their kids.They are there to take care of their children like Mr. Merchant did when he took in Harsha when her husband left her. I agree that perhaps the old father may not be an ideal person to live with but when nearly all parents adjust with their not at all ideal offsprings it is the least any child can do for his parent. To support him in his time of need.

You have believed the daughter’s words without ever looking at what the second daughter’s husband has stated. If marriage is an offence for a 72 year old man, Harsha should bring her father to justice.

There is no justification for kicking out a helpless old man from his own house. This is a perfect example of women empowerment. The police should kick this women out and let this old man live in his own house peacefully for the rest of his days.

The old man is working in a travel firm and needs no financial support. The old man has clearly stated it. The husband of the second daughter has clearly stated that the house belongs to the old man. I can tell you that to own a house in Mumbai, one needs to be a millionaire. It is highly unlikely that a daughter with two kids to look after could be owning that house and an old father who has earned all his life could not be owning that house. The old man must have put in enough resources of his lifetime to own his place. The young daughter simply does not have the resources to own the house.

Property rates in Mumbai are at the peak and young people cannot afford it. 4. The husband of the second daughter has confirmed the ownership of the property. 5. To tell the truth... the whole story sounds fishy to me. First of all, in one place it says thrown out of his house, but then it says his room... and that she live in a flat... so what is it... like an apartment? or was it like a room in a hotel? it doesn’t sound like they are talking about a house. From the story, it did not even sound like they lived together, more like just neighbors. secondly, he is 72, how old is his daughter? Wouldn’t she be in her 40s? and those kids of hers wouldn’t they be almost full grown? Also, if he is working, going out, and dating he is not an invalid... so what kind of ”taking care of” are we talking about here? The other kids did not get involved until after the fact and even then, they did nothing but talk. If it was his property, he could get a copy of the deed...get a locksmith to open the door and go home... right? There is a lot more to this story than meets the eye.

The problem is that you don’t suspect the authenticity of a story when a man is involved in a crime. But the minute a woman is involved, you start talking about the gaps in the story. I must tell you that in Mumbai, people either live in apartments, or rooms, or in shanties. The minority of people live in houses and they are the rich people. So, it is obviously not a house. But Indian media are never give importance to such accurate reporting. All I can see is that the man has been thrown out! About somebody to look after him, any old person needs care and attention. Its not just in terms of money. And, breaking a lock and getting in is not easy. The place where he was staying is being let out to another person now and he obviously has no strength to get it unlocked. Indian police are not as civilized as to look at the property papers and decide the matter. They ask for bribes from both sides and the one who gives more gets his way through.
