Well, the verdict is out, It is a nice ,breezy , timepass movie.Imran does shows promise but to become a superstar star it needs more than a Chocolate Hero image and Aamir khan’s nephew tag. He has to evolve through various roles. In this age of multiplexes it needs a super , outstanding movie to become a runaway success
what was jarring was the way promotion of the movie done by the Great Aamir Khan, Imran, Imran and only Imran. It was Genelia’s debut also, but as usual she was used as a prop, remember Kahoo Na Pyar Hai, poor Amisha despite her talents she was relegated to the background. It clearly shows that Bollywood is male dominated. Even the Showman RajKapoor used women as an object, who could forget Mandakini and her bath in Ram teri—- Zeenat Aman in Satyam Shivam—
It really takes A Shyam Benegal to give proper exposure to women and or giving us classics like Ankur, Mandi,Nishant,Bhumika etc. Even Rajkumar Santoshi with his Damini and Lajja and that maverick Mahesh Bhatt in Earth, now these are real champions of women.
It seems what holded good before holds good now also and the courage to give a woman her due is still lacking
and the actresses are to be blamed for that too... do they really accept roles that don’t portray them as glamorous, non-cleavage revealing REAL women?? No they DONT!!! Any why blame the men for it???
The good actresses get their due when they deserve it... like Kareena in Jab We met... no one complained that Shahid didnt get the same accolades as Kareena there!!!!
If you have watched Jaane Tu.. then you’d know that Genelia gets her due on screen...
as for the Imran-centric marketing of the film...that was necessary to get the audiences to the theaters... otherwise who would have noticed two young wannabes in a movie about college kids???
Aamir did the right thing... he used his star power to get people to watch the film first and now he’s standing back and letting both Genelia and Imran take the limelight!!!!

But yes it does become very biased when it comes to a family member’s debut. As far as women centric films are concerned, they are very few and it reflects the state of the society as well. For example I thought Ek Hasina Thee was a decent film with strong female character. It flopped at he box office. General Indian audience still don’t want to see an independent female lead taking matters into her own hands.
