Whether it was deliberate or a genuine mishap, Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi the host of G8 Summit in L’Aquilla Italy was left empty handed when he attempted to greet the US President Obama when he arrived for the traditional family picture at the earthquake devastated region of Italy.

Obama just walked on without shaking the offered hand and Berlusconi was left looking definitely sheepish at the ignore whether deliberate or not still remains to be seen. However, Obama made up for the mishap and later in the day embraced the Italian premier.

What with Super G8 wives dinner controversy anything is possible with Berlusconi, with his divorce coming up with his wife because of his alleged affair with an 18 year old aspiring model.

Even Carla Bruni, the Italian born wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy will be missing the G8 summit events to avoid a potentially embarrassing confrontation with him as there has been an online petition by four Italian academics, calling on the spouses of the world leaders to boycott the summit on account of Berlusconi’s “offensive behaviour” towards women.

There has been an unsavoury affair when Berlusconi, 72, reportedly boasted to Carla’s husband Nicolas that he gave him his wife, a comment which he later denied.

About the G8 summit, the World Leaders agreed that it was too soon to roll back the multi-billion pound attempts to stimulate their economies. It could further trigger a double-dip-recession. They also floated the idea of a minimum and maximum price of oil to prevent fluctuations.

But the joint statement said it all “The economic situation remains uncertain and significant risks remain to economic and financial stability.”
