The Protest-Better Late Than Never

When I had gone to Goa few years ago,I faced it and faced it without protest.Goa is tourist haven for tourists all over the globe. You can see Indians and foreigners in equal numbers.

When we went to have tea in a roadside restaurant a Western couple ordered lemon tea they were served with alacrity and when I ordered the same I was looked down upon my own countryman and told quite rudely only milk tea is served here and refused to listen to my protest. To rub salt in my wound another white couple ordered the same and they were again served beamingly ,Service with a big smile.I could do nothing.

When we wanted to rent a lounge the proprieter was not really happy to rent it out to natives because presumably he had foreigners lined up.

When Danny Boyle glamourised our slums and won accolades we cheered the loudest, after all The West had deigned to look at us be it through the eyes of one of its own.Slumdog Millionaires, the picturisation of stark and abject poverty really pleased them after all it made them realise once again how very superior they were.

Adam Gilchrist and Symonds(It is a different story now,Cricket Australia is now having problems with his alleged alcoholism and attitude) they came the abused one in his book and other verbally we took it sportingly after all cricket is the game of gentlemen and who is more polite and sporting than Indian.

In Australia also, why only Australia we have been facing abuse silently. If some one is unable to digest it and returns home never mind there are scores of others willing to take his place.

We feel proud if any foreigner interacts with us,only he may be cursing the way he had been cheated by the natives,he behaves as if nothing of this type happens in his own country.

In fact the Indians living in Australia are also finding faults with the Indians. They say they talk loudly on the mobiles while in public. They are noisy and dirty. Pray where did you come from straight from heaven I suppose.

The Australian media is angry with the Indian bloggers, the Indian media for hightlighting the racial abuse going on in their country. They are feeling upset when someone wrote that Australians on visit to India should be treated in the same manner as they are treating our boys.

It is good that media is coming out about the real Arrogant West especially the Australian hooligans who are taking out their frustrations on othe vulnerable nationals especially Indians

All this doesn't make sense. Those incidents had nothing to do with Racism, lot of these types of incidents take place in India everyday but other countries don't over-hype it like we Indians do :(

The Indian media is blindly hyping a few late night attacks on lone students on public transport at late hours in bad neighborhoods - perhaps Indian need educating about the dos and don'ts of living in a large city like Melbourne.

When an Australian and his 6 and 7 year old boys were burned alive in a car in India we didn't respond by calling them racists. These guys are idiots.

And don't mention the tourists being raped, mugged and stabbed in India or the 3 Australians that have been killed in India over the last 2 years.

I think a few important issues regarding the racist attacks against the Indians are overlooked. Firstly, and foremost, Indians are granted a permanent residency visa once completing their respective degrees. Such cases as these create an unfair environment for Australian born citizens - the tax payers - seeking housing. Remember, the laws of supply and demand?
