This is the latest amended, that is bit watered down version of the original bill that has been passed by the Karzai Government in Afghanistan on 27th July.

The original bill was about the condition that a wife should have sex with her husband for four days in a week. It created a huge hue and cry in the international circles so now it has changed to the condition that if the wife refuses to have sex with her husband he can starve her and not allow her to have any food.

The bill have also removed the need to consent for sex within marriage thus condoning marital rape in a round about manner.It also has given the authority to the husband to grant permission to his wife to work or not. To add insult to the injury the bill also stipulates that fathers and grandfathers are given exclusive custody of children.

Afghanistan is going in for presidential elections next week and the present President Hamid Karzai is a contender and forerunner in this election. So as per the critics of this highly repressive bill have accused Karzai of giving in to the conservative Shia pressures for their support to win this election.
