Shocking, at least that is the reaction of all the people who heard this news. Of course it is shocking , but does it not draw the real picture of India , the Indian Mentality. The feeling which is ingrained in us that if you do not have a son you are worthless, the society will look down on you as incomplete,even if the son grows up into a worthless creature dependent on you for your support but treating you like dirt.
India may develop nuclear power, send a space shuttle to moon, Indian women may be world’s best business entrepreneurs,best bankers, but those represent only a minuscule percentage.
The real Indian woman is still totally dependent on male patronage for her safe existence, a divorcee, a discarded woman tag immediately brands her as loose woman this fear compels many women to suffer all the indignities handed out to her and still continue with her marriage.The unmarried has different sets of problems.
If a seventy year old, already a mother of two girls ,has to undergo all the pains and face the ridicule of all ,especially of the youngsters just to become a mother of a son, India has a long long way to go to even reach the threshold of emancipation
