I voted, yes after all that heart burning and soul searching I did vote and got a mark on my, no,nothing as glamourous as middle finger, I am no celebrity ,but on my index finger.
I did inquire about the much touted Form 49-O but for my innocent inquiry I got a very dirty look from the voting official,Why,Why do you need that form. I replied so that I can exercise my right of not to vote.From his face I could see that he thought me to be a potential trouble maker. As it is he was made to do compulsory election duty whereas the whole city was enjoying a holiday.”May be you should ask the Polling Officer but I don’t think it will be of any use.” I got the friendly unwanted advice albeit with a grumpy face. As I could sense the discomfiture of my spouse who hates all sorts of confrontations I decided not to stretch the matter further and meekly went in to vote.So far so good.
Now I am the forever diehard optimistic so I am waiting for the magical changes which were promised.May be this time they will materialise.
But I can see the drastic changes all around.The folded hands, the eternal smile is all but gone.I saw Rahul Gandhi went in to vote and came out, sat in his car and took off without a word to the media who were all out in full force, many were waiting since morning.Perhaps few words would have made their waiting worthwhile but now the voting is over so is the need for media at least till the results are declared
I saw Laloo Prasad Yadav the Railway Minister shooing away a photographer just because he wanted a shot of Laloo casting his vote.
And I also saw the only one truly honest campaigner Priyanka Gandhi back in her jeans and tees, the Sarees of Grandmother all locked away in the closet perhaps for next election.
Change is in the air or should I say back to the origins.
