Helpless, Mentally Retarded Kids buried live in Mud

They are doomed, first they were born mentally challenged and secondly they were born in those families who are suffering from mental deprivation, that is lacking rational thinking, and are superstitious to the hilt.

Come 22nd July, the day of the longest sun eclipse of the century, with the media going overboard with different colorfully attired so called fortune mongers, screaming on top of their voices about the ill effects on all and sundry of a totally natural phenomenon, someone from Gulberga a place in Karnataka had a brainwave. He must be another soothsayer who wanted to earn some extra money. There was a belief that if the mentally retarded child is buried neck deep in the mud near the village pond he will be cured and will become normal.

Desperate cases give rise to desperate measures. here too the same thing happened. Not one nor two 108 kids were brought to the pond and buried neckdeep in the mud, every kid was crying in panic. They were kept buried for the whole duration of eclipse Poor kids were unable to understand or protest at the inhuman treatment.

The pits were dug by Nav Tarun Sangh(the New Youth Committee)and filled with mud and water. A fine example of misguided youth indeed.

There was no pity,no relief for the poor kids. Also till date there is no news of miraculous recovery of any of the 108 kids. On one hand we are planning Chandrayaan II to send on the moon and on the other hand the shadow of the same moon gives us jitters. India is surely a land of contradictions.

"Nav Tarun Sangh". The name itself suggests that these are the boys misguided by the RSS people. The most fanatic organization that doesn't believe in the scientific and technological development.

It's the real India. The people are still living in the 16th century. Despite of great scientific and technological development people are suffering from superstitions.

Just horrible, dreadful reading!

How in this day and age that these ”normal people” are still ignorant, superstitious and retarded in their own thinking to inflict this stupid cruel treatment on mentally challenged children!
When will India educate its people as a No 1 priority?
To eradicate all these stupid practices.

It's the tragedy with India. Even the well educated people who know the actual cause of solar eclipse are superstitious about its impacts. Not only solar eclipse there are many other areas where Indian people deny the scientific logic behind the event.

Now as per reports coming in there were 38 kids who were made to undergo such inhumane treatment and the Chief Minister is assuring inquiry in the whole matter. But it is doubtful that any thing will change even after any official inquiry.

Why would anyone play into this? The idiots on the news where even playing into this eclipse nonsense. Nothing happened, nothing has ever happened and nothing ever will, how stupid do you have to be to keep thinking that eclipses mean anything?

Its indeed shcoking, to say the least! India is such a land of contrasts - On the one hand you have the well-heeled and on the other the poor and the ignorant. But superstition is rife among all classes and communites of people of India. It is a scourge of this country. The so-called educated people with degrees from Harvard and MIT will be harbouring the same superstition that is keeping India down. I really don’t care that we have become, along with Chinal,a global economy to reckon with. Until every village in India has clean drinking water, proper housing and access to good medical care and education there is nothing for us to be proud of. I frankly don’t know why we are competing with the West with our space programmes. We need to divert those huge funds into what is mentioned above. ”Kill superstition” would be my motto for my country rather than ”Go global”!

No doubt superstitions exist in India. Even the well educated people are suffering from this. But there are reasons behind this. The main reason is the lack of scientific education in India. We are still following the old pattern of education where there is no space for logic and questioning. We need an education system which can develop rational thinking among the people.
