Entertain The Police Or Get Your Cheek Slashed!

Pinki is a 29 year old mother of a toddler Chottu one and a half year old. She was married to Deepak in 2003. Living in Kanpur Dehat she was being tortured by her in-laws for not bringing sufficient dowry.

Ironically her mother-in-law was working and she was a primary school teacher but was placed under suspension and a police case was also registered against her.

The Mother-in law used to visit the local Police station regularly to “entertain” them what sort of entertainment is anybody’s guess no grey matter required here.

She also used to pester her daughter-in-law to go to the police station and entertain them because as Pinki had not sufficient dowry she should repay it with her body this seems to be her way of thinking.

On 2nd September while Pinki was sleeping with her son the evil trio comprising of Husband Deepak, mother-in-law and father-in-law and started forcing her to go to the police station, when she refused to do so her loving husband tried to smother her with a pillow and affectionate mother in law slashed off her left cheek with the sickle she was carrying.

Not ending the ordeal here they threw out the profusely bleeding Pinki and her son who got his ribs fractured out of the house where she was spotted by some neighbours and taken to hospital.

Now all the three culprits are absconding and Pinki is visiting the SP office she is appealing that her case should not be registered at the local Police Station but at the District level, obviously where the Police has been entertained by her Mother-in law she has little hopes of justice being done to her on that level.

One redeeming feature of this story is that Pinki’s Father is supporting his daughter in every manner calling her in laws insane and promising never to send his daughter back again.

This is what happens when people don't make their daughter's independent enough and takes marriage as the best alternative for her security.

Girls should be brought up the same way as boys and should not be allowed to marry till they get a good job, as is done in the case of boys.

No matter how much dowry a girl gets from he parents, its never enough for the greedy in-laws. Never get married to a family, who is looking forward o get dowry from girl's side.

Why have people started taking marriages as a source of income. Boys expects money from the girls side and girls expect for property rights from the boys side. When will people understand that its a relationship, not business.

Catch them all and send to prison for life. How could one force his own wife for the sex trade. Plus the child was also hit. This is unacceptable.

Veena ji, I don’t know the source of your post.Pinki has been married to Deepak for the last six years with one child and she was allegedly assaulted on 2nd Sept.
Has she ever made such a complaint to the higher police authorities or to her parents against her husband and in-laws.
There are at least 50 police personnels work at a Police Station. Who at the Police Station was allegedly being entertained by her mother-in-law and to who Pinki was forced to go to entertain. Why to send her to a Police Station to force her into prostitution? They could have arranged the ”customers” at their home too.Nature of allegations are very serious ,not only on the in-laws but also on the characters of the police officials.Need a thorough probe.

Raj, I have taken this aricle from the Times of India Kanpur edition. I agree with you that a through probe is needed and as always for one person taking advantage of the misery the whole police station is dubbed as corrupt.

What a dreadful situation to be in. I agree with Suryasnata comment.

From my understanding these compulsive dowery requirements must be a heavy burden to fulfill just to get married and live in peace, and are sometimes used as an excuse for vicious greedy people to exploit the vulnerable.
Do people in India actually get married because they love each other?
It seems to me from what I have been reading that ”inlaws” are renowned for interfering in Indian marraiges.
If this case is true then they have to brought to justice - thank God this girl has the support of her loving family.
Others maybe are not so fortunate.
