Chandrayaan I Lost Forever

The ambitious space project Chandrayaan 1 which was launched with great fanfare and was a proud moment for India placing it in the elite space club is almost over.

The project was supposed to go on for two years but unfortunately it seems that it lost contact with the earth station at 0130 hours and as per the Project Director of ChandrayaanI M.Annadurai, the mission is definitely over and we have lost contact with the spacecraft.

But looking at the brighter side he is also of the view that the spacecraft has done its technical job 100% and scientific job 90-95%.

The Chandrayaan 1 weighed 1380 kgs and carried 11 instruments out of which 6 were from overseas. The last message was received by The Deep Space Network at Byalalu till 0025 hours. Obviously detailed analysis of the telemetry data will be carried out to know the reason of failure.

It seems that the one step of scientific advancement is followed by several steps backwards. Also with the disclosure of Hydrogen Bomb being a dude the position of India in these elite clubs is definitely wobbly.

People should give India some slack here. Even if the mission failed, they have already achieved what only 2 or 3 other nations have achieved. India did something pretty remarkable because the majority of major industrialized western countries don't even have the ability to launch satellites into Earth orbit by themselves, let alone send probes all the way to the moon and into lunar orbit.

The Chandrayann-1 has been in orbit for almost a year and completed its primary objectives.

I suspect Chandrayaan-1 just got bored of orbiting the moon and buggered off to Mars where all the real action is at ;)

It’s still a terrific achievement for Indian scientists. Also the experience gained shall prove useful for future projects.
