India :

Poor Bihar, inspite of being a state rich in natural resources and human resources is reduced to a state of helplessness and hopelessness.
For decades it was ruled as a personal kingdom by unscruplous politicians who just enjoyed the bounty without doing anything for the welfare of the state.
The official apathy is another nail in the coffin reducing millions homeless. The desilting, the repair work on outdated dams all ignored leading up to this mammoth manmade and to some extent natural tragedy.
The mind boggles even at the thought of rehabilitation work. Everyone is ready to join the bandwagon of relief for their personal gains.
The future of Bihar is indeed bleak.

I was watching this special about he Bihar floods on NDTV India and this reported raised this point hat when others parts of the country were being ravaged by floods, earthquakes, cyclones and tsunamis the NGOs were the first to provide help, but there are next to none in Bihar at the moment!

This only goes to show the kinda prejudice we as a nation have towards the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society especially if they happen to happen to be from Bihar!

Unfortunately the face of Bihar as seen by rest of the world is that of politicians namely Laloo, the unsavoury elements that of Pappu Yadav et al even the best bureaucrat Goswami was found tainted. Such people deter the real aid agencies. secondly the image of common Bihari is associated with the millions of labourers who have now spread all over India and are ready to live in any conditions to earn their livelihood. Not very appealing picture So people hesitate to come forward to help
