Better Late Than Never, January 24th is National Girl's Child Day

Finally our leaders woke up to the fact that women in India are discriminated against from birth only so there should be a special day for the girl child. At least millions of young girls will benefit from starting of one day 24th January, hopefully it will pave the way for a new beginning.

The focus is on the scourge of female infanticide, domestic violence and malnutrition. The proposal by Women and child minister Mrs. Renuka Choudhary was thankfully cleared by the cabinet, not like the bill for reservation for women in the legislation which is yet to be passed.

The awareness against the female foeticide will be brought home through TV campaigns, advertisements and school lessons propagating gender equality. The domestic violence will be brought under control by giving funds to the States to appoint requisite protection officers and also for bringing in implementation of Domestic violence Act.

The Aganwadi Workers, Women who had shown courage and talented children all will be awarded.

A commendable step if only it does not confine itself to one day only.
