Atrocious Hindi

I saw the fabulous movie Mummy- Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The special effects were mind blowing, you don’t actually see these movies for acting as there is little scope to show your histronics. you are pitted against the wonder of technology in the form of special effects. As Jackie Chan movies are action packed thrillers.
Well, I am not raving about the movie but there were few scenes in the movie where the dialogues were in ancient Chinese and I was shocked by the Hindi Translation that appeared as bylines. Nearly every second word was spelled wrongly. Is the standard of Hindi so down market that you can present it in any manner with no attention paid to the spelling or proper translation. Have we become so insensitive towards our national language that we coolly accept its degradation.
Speaking English is okay, but every other country takes pride in their mother tongue except we Indians.
Isn’t it time for a positive change?

Dear Veena,

Fabulous..... Hmmm.... Not very apt for The New Mummy series...at least the critics and the audiences worldwide have given it a thumbs down...whether u like it or not...English is the unofficial national language and very few people actually ( sad truth though)care or bothered with the proper use of our official national language.

The problem is that we Indians are not sure about our Mother Tongue itself. Here up in the North a lot of them speak Hindi but elsewhere people stick to their local dialects. Thus, we can only say that it is a language which most people speak in India but not all. This is a kind of undoing for us when we talk about National unity as well.

I think that if you are writing something at least make sure that the basic spellings are correct, otherwise it would be better if you refrain from using that language, I shudder to think about the Hindi translated version of the above movie, the translation being the latest craze

There are sixteen national languages in India including English,. Hindi is our official language (Rajkiya bhasha). It is written in Devnagari script like Marathi, Maithili and Nepali. Borrowed translators tend to make mistakes which can be mildly termed as blunders. You may seeth in anger, if you wish to.
