The fourth Indian Born Author to win the Prestigious Booker prize given to an outstanding author from the Common Wealth for his novel “The White Tiger”.
Aravinda Adiga was born in Chennai, studied in Mangalore and did his further studying in English Literature in Columbia University, New York and Magdalen College, Oxford.
Interestingly he worked as a Financial Journalist with Financial Times, Money, Wall street. Then he was with the TIME when he penned his novel based in Mumbai.
“The White Tiger” is an interesting and energetic novel. It potrays the growing divide between the haves and have nots. It is an angry black comedy with its anti Hero Balram Halwai.
Interestingly there was another novel “Sea Of Poppies” by another Indian Amitav Ghosh who was in the last six. Salman Rusdhie’s “Enchantress of Florence” could not make to last six.
We have four Indian born Booker Award winners:
1. V.S.Naipaul
2.Salman Rushdie
3.Arundhati Roy
4.Kiran Desai
It is really a wonderful news. It just proves once again that if an Indian wants, an Indian gets.
