Wrong,not if the father used to beat his mother blue and black till she vomited blood ,screaming for help that too in front of his young terrified son,then left the family 34 years ago and divorced his wife.
Now when the son is well settled in America ,this father is demanding maintenance from his son to the tune of Rs.5000/- per month.
Pasi Satarawal 41 has been asked by the court in Navsari in South Gujarat to pay a monthly maintainence of Rs.5000/- to Aspi Satarawala 65 his father.
A judicial magistrate in Navsari had passed an ex-parte payment of maintainence last May, now Pasi has again been served another notice.
His lawyers are looking in the matter and will be contesting the order soon. As for the “loving “father ,well he wants Pasi to come to the court so what if he has not taken care of him but he was still his father,Pasi should come to the court and whatever decision court will take it will be accepted by him.
Like many laws which are made for betterment of a particular segment of society ,even this seems to have some drawbacks.It simply does not seem fair that Pasi should be expected to pay for the maintainence of man who was his father just in name and who illtreated his mother and finally dumped them both when Pasi was just 7.
He did not fulfill his responsibilities as a father but he expects Pasi to fulfill the responsibilty of a son for that he is using the maintainence act as a weapon. Not Fair at all.

This is exactly whats happening in all divorce cases. Some ask humongous amounts alimony/maintenance for even for short marriages. The same Act mentioned by the author states wife is entitled to be look after by the husband for her entire life!!! Hows that fair? These kinda laws should be scrapped just like IPC 377 and on the same grounds that it clearly violates Article 14, 15 and 21 of The Constitution of India.

earn while you earn and live while you are able to ilve...Educate your son and Daughter ,,,,so if we do our job perfectly nothing will happen...but we need self discipline and good habits that is why we are into Education. A soiety should be proud to have both responsible fathers and Mothers like responsible sons and Daughters ...so we need moral..

The old man deserves no sympathy, leave alone compensation. He has only fathered a child, not done anything that a person does to be called a father. Not a penny should be given to him. If possible he should be jailed for the atrocities that he committed towards his wife years ago when there were no stringent laws against men as they are there today.

This is your 300th. article dealing in detached father asking his for maintenance through court. It’s not fair on the part of father. He has humiliated his wife while the son was 7. Nevertheless,if son is well off,out of sympathy son could consider as an extra ordinary case. Father instead seeking redressal through a court,as well could have approached the son himself and ought have maintained dignity of both. Massive human errors lie with father.
