Irene Vilar, a 40 year old successful literary agent, now a mother of two five and three looks completely normal, but she has just released her memoir “Impossible Motherhood– Testimony of Abortion Addict” which is certainly an eye-opener.
Irene in her book has written about her first marriage, she got married when she was just 16, a year after she was accepted in a New York University being an academic prodigy.
Her first husband was a 50 year old Latin American Professor who was against having children as they killed sexual desire and also he used to brag as to how his relationships lasted only upto five years.
Being at an impressionable age but rebelling against her dominating husband Irene used to forget to take birth control pills and inher own words’In the beginning I was taking pills and I’d skip a day or two or give up one month,’ she said in a television interview. “I’d think I’ll be better next time. ‘But slowly, my days took on a balancing act and there was a specific high. I would get my period and be sad, then discover I was pregnant, being afraid, yet also so excited”
As per her she underwent abortions so that her husband would not leave her,but after wards it became an addiction, she wanted to be free and she also worked in this direction but was helpless.
She also wrote about her tragic past when her mother killed herself by jumping from a moving car while her eight year old daughter Irene desperately tried to hold onto her, her father was driving at that time. Irene’s two brothers are drug addicts.
Naturally the anti-abortion activists has swung into action and both pro and anti groups are raising voices against this underscoring of pro-life movement and raising questions about abortion being a form of birth control.
All said and done, I think it is a very very painful way of showing your resentment.
