Sub Inspector Atindranath Dutta who was abducted by Maoists and made a Prisoner Of War was released by them after the West Bengal Government released the 14 Lalgarh Tribal women who were arrested by the security forces accusing them of trying to murder police officials. The charges against them were attempt to murder, sedition and waging war against the state.

But as per the reports in the Times of India there is another side of the picture. The supposedly dreaded women who should have the necessary guts to do so are in fact uneducated, tribal whose main aim in life seemed to be just making two ends meet. They are in the 22 to 70 years of age group, have never known the amenities leave aside modern ones. When they were released they had no idea about their benefactors or the whole drama which the whole nation was following with bated breath.

When they were released they were frightened of the battery of flash bulbs and the gathering of media was completely new disturbing experience. They did not have a single penny which they could use for returning home and had absolutely no idea about the bus service which they could use. Their men folks were in hiding fearing that even they might be branded as Maoists. Fortunately their lawyer Mrinal Choudhary stepped in and helped them.

These women had their tales of woes. As per them Police officials regularly came to their homes and in the name of “search operations” abused and damaged whatever little they had, the earthen pots and pans.They used to ask them about the “people of jungle” and when they were unable to give any information dragged them to the police station claiming that the women have tried to assault police personels.

This proves one thing that in any confrontation it is always the innocent who suffers the most
