As per the Chongqing Commercial Times this is her first marriage. Wang Guiying did not marry when she was very very young because she was afraid of marriage, now she is searching for a groom so that she would have someone to talk to, a fellow centenarian.

Wang broke her leg when she was 102 and is unable to do her daily chores like washing clothes. She is afraid that she is already 107 and what will happen if she does not hurry up and get married soon.

She was born in Southern Guizhou Province the child of a salt merchant. She grew up watching her uncles and other men scolding and ill treating their wives. She used to find her aunts crying in the woodshed very often after being beaten by their husbands, that was the era when Chinese women did not had many rights and a downgraded social standing.

It was the case with all the married people and Wang developed a fear of marriage. She said that getting married was too frightening. Also she belongs to the times when Chinese girls had their feet tied so as to give them a dainty look, it must have been excruciatingly painful.

After she lost her parents and elder sister she still did not get married and worked in the farms till she was 74 and no longer had the strength to work in the fields. Her nephew is taking care of her in Chongqing but she is afraid that even they are getting old the youngest one is in his 60’s, their children are involved in their own lives and she is afraid she is becoming a burden on them.

Local authorities have welcomed the idea and suggested that the family of the would be bride should search in old peoples’ home for a 100 year old groom.
